representation in bicycle injury cases
South Carolina trial lawyer Peter Wilborn rides too, and he launched bikelaw (first as scbikelaw) to combine his passion for cycling with his legal work at Derfner, Altman and Wilborn. He has been representing cyclists and cycling groups since 2000, but it was more than adding a specialty to his practice. Years earlier, Peter had a bike tragedy in his own family. With bikelaw, Peter's aim was - and is - to be a resource to other riders and their families.
From the start, calls and referrals have come from friends met in cycling clubs and bike shops, and from advocates for better bicycling conditions, including the Palmetto Cycling Coalition, Charleston Moves, the Greenville Spinners Bike Club and the League of American Bicyclists.
The bikelaw continues to grow exponentially, expanding into Maryland, North Carolina, and other states. In 2006, trial lawyer and cyclist Ann Groninger of Copeley Johnson & Groninger PLLC joined bikelaw.com to bring legal services to cyclists in North Carolina.
Both Ann and Peter are partners in firms that are AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell - the highest national rating for legal ability and ethical standards. In part because of the bicycle advocacy work, DAW (Peter's firm) was recognized nationally in 2007 with a Pro Bono Publico Award from the American Bar Association.
Meet the bikelaw team
Ann and Peter are joined by Jana Morris, a paralegal and advocacy director for bikelaw. Jana is a successful competitive cyclist, board member of the Palmetto Cycling Coalition, a bike store owner, and a former insurance adjuster. Jana brings the perfect set of skills to your case and our movement. Kristi Millican is a crack paralegal who rounds out the team.
We provide pro bono legal advice to school groups and to cycling clubs and teams - about insurance, organizational structure, advocacy efforts, bicycle safety and more. Peter has earned certification as a safety instructor from the League of American Bicyclists, and he is available to teach bicycle safety to groups. In addition, bikelaw conducts training programs for law enforcement personnel.
