New laws pertaining to cyclists were enacted in June 2008 in South Carolina. If you ride, here's what you need to know.
- Drivers must keep a safe distance between themselves and cyclists.
- It is illegal for a driver to "buzz" a cyclist.
- Drivers may not harass or taunt cyclists.
- It is illegal to throw objects at cyclists.
- Call the police immediately if any of these things happen.
- Make sure to get the driver's license plate number and car type.
- Drivers can face civil and criminal fines for violating your rights.
