Maine Bike Law Attorney Lauri Boxer-Macomber

Meet Maine Bike Law Attorney Lauri Boxer-Macomber

Lauri Boxer-Macomber is a Maine attorney who has embraced bicycling for decades. Lauri’s law practice is focused on advocating for the rights of bicyclists, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. She is a member of the national Bike Law network.

Lauri advocates for racers, commuters, recreational riders, triathletes, new Mainers and families of bicyclists, pedestrians and others who have been injured or lost their lives because of motorists, dangerous infrastructure and unsafe road conditions.

If you have questions about your rights as a bicyclist or have been in a bike-car crash anywhere in Maine, you have a legal advocate in Lauri and Maine Bike Law.

Lauri’s Legal Background And Cycling Experience

Lauri received her law and graduate education at the University of California, Davis, which is also known as the “Bike Capital” of the United States.  There, because of safe and accessible infrastructure, she was able to ride throughout her entire first pregnancy, as well as with her son in tow during his infancy and early childhood.

Super Lawyers has recognized Lauri for her alternative dispute resolution and litigation skills, and she has also received recognition for her pro bono work from the Maine Supreme Court through the Katahdin Counsel Program.

Lauri regularly commutes on her bicycle, has toured in the U.S. and abroad and rides with local clubs, friends and family throughout the year. She puts in many of her miles during the early morning hours and has competed in several long distance events, including an iron distance triathlon in 2014.

Lauri’s Advocacy Work for Maine Bicyclists

Lauri’s riding experience and legal training are complemented by her advocacy work.  She is an active Board Member of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, a Governor of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association and a Member of the American League of Bicyclists.  She also chairs the Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s Policy and Legislation Committee and is one of the founding members and facilitators of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s Law Enforcement Collaborative, a group of law enforcement officers, planners, bicycle advocates and others who meet regularly with the goal of improving safety on Maine’s roadways.

Lauri is especially interested in bettering the relationships between motor vehicle operators and bicyclists. She was instrumental in getting bicycle and pedestrian safety legislation passed in 2013 and 2015.

In addition to working with her clients and their families, she speaks in Maine to bicycle clubs, advocacy groups, attorneys and law enforcement personnel.

REPORT YOUR MAINE BIKE ACCIDENT

Lauri is available to help bicyclists and others to navigate, apply and understand Maine’s bicycle laws and ordinances. She is also well-versed in the difficult insurance and lien issues that often arise in bicycle cases.

Typically, it’s because the driver who hits them (or their family member) is charged with a crime or traffic offense. Occasionally bicyclists themselves are charged with traffic offenses! Every state’s criminal laws are different, but there is a lot of […]
